King’s Speech: Dividing lines for the general election?

Politics

The King has set out the government’s policies for the coming year in the first King’s Speech for 70 years.

It was also the first since Rishi Sunak became prime minister and will probably be the last before the next general election.

Of the bills set out in the speech, it could be the law and order measures and ones on the environment which the Conservatives might hope provide the clearest dividing lines between themselves and Labour ahead of the election.

On the Sky News Daily Niall Paterson speaks to political editor Beth Rigby for her assessment of the King’s Speech. Plus Alastair Bruce, Sky’s royal commentator, on the significance of the ceremony in modern Britain.
