Footage shows the King appearing to get frustrated with his robe while a page boy helped him at the State Opening of Parliament.

The King was preparing to deliver a speech setting out the new Labour government’s agenda in the House of Lords.

Wearing the Imperial State Crown and ermine and velvet Robe of State, he sat down on the throne as two young pages in red tunics attempted to adjust his robe.

King’s Speech: Follow live

The King seemed to pull his hand back when the page boy was trying to place his robe around the throne.

The monarch appeared to take matters into his own hands by trying to flip the material out over the side of the throne himself, before one of the boys placed it in the correct position.

The King was sat next to the Queen, whose 77th birthday celebrations were put on hold for the State Opening of Parliament ceremony.
