Biden’s sarcastic response after Trump boasts about winning trophies at his own golf club

US

Joe Biden has taken a sarcastic swing at election rival Donald Trump after he posted a self-celebratory social media post announcing he had won two trophies at his own golf club’s award night.

The president shared a post by Mr Trump in which he announced his success at the awards night for the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“It is my great honour to be at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach tonight, awards night, to receive the club championship trophy and the senior club championship trophy. I won both,” he wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, in his characteristic cap-lock style.

“A large and golfing talented membership, a great and difficult course, made the play very exciting. The qualifying and match play was amazing.

“A large and distinguished group will be there tonight. Very exciting, thank you!!!”

The post prompted a response from Mr Biden, who took a tongue-in-cheek shot at his political opponent.

Sharing an image of Mr Trump’s post on his personal X account, he wrote: “Congratulations, Donald. Quite the accomplishment.”

Mr Biden and Mr Trump are set to go head-to-head in November’s presidential election, in a repeat of their 2020 race for the White House.

It will be the first time since 1956 that the same two candidates have faced each other in back-to-back elections.

Last month, Mr Trump secured his status as the Republican’s presumptive presidential nominee, having comprehensively seen off his opponents in his party’s primaries.

Mr Biden also clinched enough delegates to take the Democratic Party’s nomination.

Both parties are due to hold their national convention in the summer, before the election in November.
