A Scottish government minister’s father remains under police investigation for posting an image of the Star of David linked with a swastika.

Tom Arthur snr resigned from the SNP after the Facebook post was reported to Police Scotland in April, with the force initially investigating it as a “communications offence”.

The post was shared on the day the Scottish government’s controversial Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act came into effect.

Enquiries have since concluded, with a decision yet to be made on whether Mr Arthur snr will be prosecuted.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries into a reported hate crime have concluded, however, no decision on the outcome of the investigation has been taken yet.”
