NHS leaders have warned joint strike action by consultants and junior doctors this week will cause unprecedented disruption for patients.

Planned care is likely to come to a halt with thousands of appointments cancelled, as the row continues with the government over pay and working conditions.

Hospital consultants and other senior doctors in England will walk out for 48 hours from Tuesday.

They will be joined by their junior colleagues on Wednesday, who will continue their strike on Thursday and Friday.
